Initial Visit

What happens during an initial appointment?

An initial consultation can take place in person or by phone. It is important for us to listen to your concerns regarding your child’s communication development and discuss whether he or she would be an appropriate candidate for an initial assessment.

Part of the initial assessment process involves gathering case history information from your family. These case history questionnaires and other required clinic forms are to be completed before testing can take place. Once completed, the SLP will proceed with formal assessment. Testing may involve using standardized speech, language and communication assessments, formal measures, rating scales, criterion referenced measures, speech or language sampling, child observation and interview. This process may take 1-3 hours depending on each unique case. The SLP clinician completes a comprehensive speech and language written report to share with the family. Based on the findings obtained during the assessment process, goals and services are uniquely prescribed for each child based on his or her specific needs.

We work closely with family members, school staff and/or other medical providers, if indicated, to achieve optimal treatment outcomes. We understand that every child acquires skills at his or her own pace and FAST’s goal is provide optimal therapy designed to match each child’s unique ability.
